Information for international students returning to Australia (as of 7 January)
Before you arrive in Australia
All fully vaccinated eligible visa holders including international students or have a valid medical exemption need the following to enter Australia:
1. Have an international COVID-19 vaccination certificate, or obtain a valid foreign vaccination certificate from the country you were vaccinated.
2. Test negative for COVID-19. Present evidence of a negative COVID-19 PCR test (not a rapid antigen test) taken within 3 days of your flight’s scheduled departure. Present this evidence to your airline when you check-in for your flight.
3. Ensure all your Commonwealth entry requirements are in order, including checking you can travel and completing your Australian Travel Declaration (ATD) online at least 72 hours before departure. All travellers, including you our students, will continue to use the ATD until the Digital Passenger Declaration (DPD) is released (early 2022).

Note: International arrivals aged 18 and over who are not fully vaccinated (excluding those with a medical exemption) will be required to undertake 14 days of hotel quarantine.

Arrival in states and territories
New South Wales (Sydney)
Take a rapid antigen test within 24 hours of arriving in NSW and home isolation required until they receive a negative result. A follow up rapid antigen test is required on or after day 6 after arriving in NSW.

Victoria (Melbourne)
A COVID-19 PCR test or a rapid antigen test is required within 24 hours of landing, with home isolation required until a negative test result is recorded. A follow up COVID-19 PCR test is required between days 5 and 7 after your arrival. You don’t have to quarantine while awaiting the result of this test.
Rapid Antigen tests can be purchased from chemists and supermarkets.

ACT (Canberra)
Get a COVID-19 PCR test within 24 hours of arrival in Australia and quarantine at home until you receive a negative result. Complete this online declaration form within 24 hours prior to arrival into the ACT, and get another COVID-19 PCR test on day six.

South Australia (Adelaide)
From 1 January 2022, fully vaccinated international travellers arriving into Adelaide will be required to take a PCR COVID-19 test within 24 hours of arrival and quarantine until they receive a negative result. A testing facility is available at the airport for students who arrive through the international terminal.
There is no longer a requirement to quarantine for 7 days upon arrival.

Queensland (Brisbane)
Queensland will welcome fully vaccinated international students (without quarantine) when 90% of Queensland’s eligible population (aged 16+) is fully vaccinated (87% as of 6 Jan 2022). Students can currently enter Queensland, but you will need to quarantine under the state’s requirements https://www.studyqueensland.qld.gov.au/student-returns
Western Australia (Perth)
Welcome fully vaccinated international students without the need to quarantine, from 5 February 2022. This means that international students are not able to enter WA until 5 February.

Northern Territory (Darwin)
All arrivals are required to undertake a Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) within two hours of arriving in NT. You are also required to submit an online declaration as well as take another COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test (RAT) on Day 3 and Day 6. RATs are provided for free at the airport or at NT Distribution Centres.

Tasmania (Hobart)
All countries are classified as high risk. International students arriving in Australia will not be required to quarantine on arrival in Tasmania as Tasmania is not a port of entry for international flights.
